Where is Chad?
Chad is a super big country in the middle of Africa. It doesn't have any oceans nearby, so it's called 'landlocked'. It's like a giant puzzle piece surrounded by other countries. To the north is Libya, to the east is Sudan, and to the south is the Central African Republic. On the west side, it touches Cameroon, Nigeria, and Niger. It's so big, it's the fifth-largest country in all of Africa!
A Land of Sand and Water!
Chad has amazing and different places. The very north is covered by the giant Sahara Desert, where it's super hot and sandy, like a giant sandbox! In the middle, there's a place called the Sahel, which is drier.
But the best part is in the south, where there's a green and fertile area called the Sudanian Savanna. And guess what? Chad is named after a huge lake called Lake Chad, which is the second-biggest wetland in Africa.
That's a lot of water!
Long, Long Ago in Chad
People have lived in Chad for a really, really long time, even before pyramids were built! For many years, powerful kingdoms and empires grew there because they controlled important trade routes, like busy highways for camels carrying goods across the desert. Later, France took control of Chad. Then, in 1960, Chad became its own country! It's had some tough times with wars, but people kept going.
Who Lives in Chad?
Chad is home to so many different kinds of people, over 200 groups! They speak different languages, like Arabic and French. Many people in Chad are farmers or herders, taking care of animals. Most people believe in Islam or Christianity. The capital city is called N'Djamena, and it's a busy place where many people live. It's a country with a rich mix of cultures and traditions.
