A Land Bigger Than Your Dreams!

New France was a HUGE place in North America, like a giant playground for France! It stretched all the way from the cold waters near Newfoundland to the warm Gulf of Mexico. It even included all the Great Lakes, which are like super-sized puddles! Two super-long rivers, the Saint Lawrence and the Mississippi, were like highways for the French to travel and share their culture.

From Explorers to Settlers!

Long ago, brave explorers like Jacques Cartier sailed across the ocean to find new lands. They met amazing Indigenous peoples who already lived there. Later, French people started building towns and villages, especially in places called Canada and Acadia. It was like starting a brand new neighborhood, but much, much bigger!

Furs, Fish, and Fun!

One of the most exciting things in New France was trading for beautiful animal furs. People loved wearing them! They also caught lots of fish. The French built big forts, like the Fortress of Louisbourg, to protect their towns. It was like a giant castle to keep everyone safe.

Saying Goodbye to New France

After many years, France had to give most of New France to Great Britain. It was a big change! Some French people had to move, and their families spread out. But even though the land changed hands, many places still remember the French, especially in Quebec, where people still speak French today!
