Who Was King Minos?

Imagine a king from a long, long time ago on an island called Crete. That was King Minos! He was super important in Greek stories. His dad was Zeus, the king of all gods, and his mom was Europa. Minos was a king, but he was also known for some pretty wild adventures and a scary job after he died.

The Scary Maze and the Monster!

King Minos had a big problem: a monster called the Minotaur! This creature was half-man, half-bull. To keep it hidden, Minos had a super complicated maze built, called the Labyrinth. It was so twisty and turny, no one could find their way out. Every nine years, Minos made a neighboring king send seven boys and seven girls to the maze to be eaten by the Minotaur. That's a very scary thought!

A King's Job After Death

When King Minos died, his story didn't end! In the land of the dead, where people go after they pass away, Minos got a special job. He became one of the judges! Along with two other wise judges, he helped decide where the souls of the dead would go. It was a very important job, making sure everything was fair in the underworld.

The Minoan People

A clever explorer named Sir Arthur Evans found amazing ruins on Crete. He discovered a whole ancient civilization and decided to call them the Minoans, after King Minos! He thought Minos might have been a real king who was so famous, people named their whole culture after him. The big palace at Knossos, which was like a giant city center, is sometimes called the Palace of Minos.
