Who Was Lope de Aguirre?
Lope de Aguirre was a Spanish explorer, like a knight from a storybook, but from a long time ago. He lived in the 1500s and traveled to South America. He went on a big adventure looking for a magical land of gold called El Dorado.

Lope de Aguirre's wild adventure finally came to an end in a place that is now Venezuela. His own men, who were tired of his actions, fought against soldiers who were loyal to the King. In the end, Lope de Aguirre was killed by his own men. Even though his story was sad and violent, he became famous in books and movies as a very memorable character.
