Kola Peninsula

The Kola Peninsula is like a big, pointy finger of land sticking out into the Arctic Ocean. It's super far north, in a country called Russia. Think of it as being on the very tippy-top of Europe! It's surrounded by cold, blue seas, and sometimes the sky puts on a dazzling light show called the Northern Lights. It's a place where winter lasts a long, long time!

Not too many people live on the Kola Peninsula, only about 600,000! That's like a medium-sized city. The biggest city is Murmansk, which is a very important port. People there have to be tough because it gets very cold. They love the sea, and many work with fishing or in big factories. They speak Russian, and some also speak Sami languages.

This place is famous for its wild, snowy landscapes. You'll find lots of forests, especially pine and birch trees, and also rocky hills. In the winter, everything is covered in snow, and the days are very short. But in the summer, the sun barely sets! It's a great place to see reindeer and maybe even a polar bear if you're lucky. The cold Arctic waters are full of fish.
