Kingdom of Portugal

Portugal is like a cool country shaped like a long, skinny kite on the edge of Europe! It sits right next to Spain, facing the big, blue Atlantic Ocean. This ocean was super important because it helped Portuguese explorers sail to faraway lands.

The weather there is usually sunny and warm, perfect for growing yummy grapes for juice and raisins. It has beautiful beaches and rolling hills, making it a pretty place to live.

Long, long ago, around 800 years back, Portugal started as a small county. But brave leaders wanted their own kingdom! They fought in exciting battles, like the Battle of São Mamede, to become independent.

For a very long time, kings and queens ruled Portugal. They lived in big castles and made important decisions for their people. This kingdom lasted for almost 800 years, which is longer than your great-great-great-great-great-grandparents have been alive!

The Portuguese were amazing sailors! During the 1400s and 1500s, they built strong ships and sailed across the entire world. They discovered new places and created a huge empire with colonies far away, like in Brazil.
