Where is Kandahar?

Imagine a big, sunny land in the southern part of Afghanistan. That's Kandahar Province! It's like a giant puzzle piece in the country.

To the south, it has a long border with a country called Pakistan. On other sides, it's neighbors with other parts of Afghanistan like Helmand, Uruzgan, and Zabul. The main city, also called Kandahar, sits near a river named Arghandab.

This whole area is sometimes called 'Loy Kandahar', which means 'Great Kandahar'!

Who Lives Here?

Lots of people call Kandahar home, about as many as live in a very big city! Most of them live in small villages, like tiny neighborhoods spread out across the land. The main group of people are called Pashtuns.

You might also meet people from other groups like the Baloch, Tajiks, Uzbeks, Turkmens, and Hazaras. Everyone has their own special traditions and ways of life, making Kandahar a colorful place.

What Do They Do?

People in Kandahar work hard! Many are farmers, growing yummy fruits and vegetables. They also raise animals. Kandahar is famous for its delicious pomegranates and grapes. They trade these goods with other places, like sending a big box of toys to a friend. The city of Kandahar is a busy place where people buy and sell things, and it's the second-biggest city in all of Afghanistan!

A Place of Leaders!

Kandahar is super important because sometimes, the leader of all of Afghanistan, called the Emir, sends his important messages from here! It's like the Emir has a special office in Kandahar where he makes big decisions. While the main government buildings are in the capital city, Kabul, meetings with the Emir himself often happen right here in Kandahar. It's a place where history is made!
