Helmand Province is a super big place in the southern part of Afghanistan. It's so large, it's the biggest province there! Most of it is a sandy desert, but a very important river called the Helmand River flows through it. This river is like a lifeline, bringing water to help plants grow in the dry land. It's a place with lots of sunshine and not much rain, making it a desert wonderland.

A River in the Desert!

The amazing Helmand River is the star of this province! Even though it's mostly desert, this river makes it possible for farmers to grow lots of different foods. Think of it like a giant water hose for the land.

There's even a huge dam called Kajaki Dam that holds back a lot of water, like a giant bathtub for the province. This water is used to water fields where delicious fruits and vegetables grow.

What Grows in Helmand?

Even though it's a desert, Helmand is a super important place for growing food! Farmers grow yummy things like grapes, melons, and apricots. They also grow important crops like wheat, which is used to make bread. It's amazing how much food can grow with the help of the Helmand River. This makes the province a very special place for feeding people.
