Kalahari Desert

The Kalahari Desert is a super-duper big place in Africa, like a giant sandy ocean! It's not all sand dunes like you might see in movies, though. Much of it is covered in dry grass and thorny bushes, making it a kind of 'water-wise' savanna. It stretches across three countries: Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa. That's a huge area, bigger than many countries you know!

Even though it's a desert, lots of cool creatures call the Kalahari home! You might find meerkats popping out of the ground, lions with their mighty roars, and speedy antelopes leaping across the plains. People have also lived here for thousands of years, learning how to survive and thrive in this dry land. They are very clever at finding water and food.

The Kalahari is a place of big changes. During the day, the sun can be very hot, but at night, it can get surprisingly chilly! It doesn't rain much, so the plants and animals have to be tough and resourceful. Think of it like a playground that's sometimes sunny and sometimes a bit dry, but always full of adventure.

Did you know that the Kalahari isn't a 'true' desert everywhere? That means it gets a little more rain than some other deserts.
