Sand

Imagine tiny, tiny pieces of rocks and shells all smooshed together. That's sand! It's smaller than pebbles but bigger than dust. Sand has been around for ages and ages! Big rocks get broken down into smaller pieces by rain, wind, and ice. Over millions of years, these pieces get tumbled and smoothed, becoming sand. Sometimes, tiny sea creatures like corals and shellfish make shells that break down into sand too, especially in warm, sunny oceans. So, sand is like recycled rock and shell!

Sand is super important for building things! We use special kinds of sand, like the kind found near rivers, to make concrete for roads and buildings.
