Meet Captain Cook!

Imagine a super-brave sailor named James Cook! He was born a long, long time ago, in 1728. James loved the ocean and became a captain in the navy. He was like a detective for the world, using his maps to show everyone what new places looked like. He sailed on amazing ships, exploring oceans that most people had never even seen before. He was a true adventurer!

Adventures on the High Seas!

Captain Cook went on three HUGE trips across the oceans. He sailed his ship, the Endeavour, to places like Australia and the Hawaiian Islands. He was the first person to draw a map of the main islands of New Zealand! His maps were so good, they helped people for hundreds of years. He sailed for so long, it was like going around the whole world many times!

Super Sailor Skills!

Being a sailor back then was tough! Sailors often got sick, but Captain Cook was smart. He figured out how to keep his sailors healthy by giving them fresh food, like fruits and vegetables. This helped stop a terrible sickness called scurvy. He was also a fantastic mapmaker, drawing coastlines and islands with amazing detail. He even discovered new places and claimed them for his country!

A Brave Life and a Lasting Legacy

Captain Cook was a very brave man, but sadly, he died in 1779 during one of his trips. Even though his life was cut short, his adventures changed the world. The maps he made helped other explorers and scientists learn so much more about our planet. People still remember him today, and there are statues and places named after him all over the world!
