Isaac and Jacob

Imagine two very special men from a long, long time ago. Isaac was a kind man, and his son was Jacob. They are like the grandfathers of the Israelite people. Their stories are told in a very old and important book called the Bible. These stories help us understand where many people and their beliefs came from. They are like the roots of a giant tree!

Jacob even had a dream about a ladder reaching up to heaven with angels going up and down! Jacob had a very interesting name change! He wrestled with an angel (or God, some stories say!) and his name was changed to Israel, which means 'struggles with God.' That's where the name 'Israelites' comes from! Isaac was known for being a faithful person, and Jacob was known for his cleverness and his many children, who became the leaders of the twelve tribes of Israel.
