Henry II of England

Henry II was a king who lived a super long time ago, from 1154 to 1189. He wasn't just king of England, but also ruled big parts of France, Wales, and Ireland! That's like ruling your whole neighborhood AND the next town over, and then some!

He was a very busy king, always on the move, making sure his lands were safe and his rules were followed. He was known for being very energetic and strong, like a superhero king!

Henry's dad was the Count of Anjou, and his mom was the daughter of the King of England. When Henry was just a teenager, he started helping his mom try to become queen. He became the Duke of Normandy and inherited lots of land in France.

Then, he married a very rich lady named Eleanor, who brought him even MORE land in France! Finally, he came to England and made a deal with the king, and when that king died, Henry became the King of England too. Wow!

King Henry wanted to be in charge of everything, even the church! This made him have a big fight with his friend, Thomas Becket, who was the Archbishop of Canterbury. It was such a big fight that Thomas Becket was sadly murdered.

Henry also had lots of arguments with the King of France because Henry ruled so much of France! He even had fights with his own sons who wanted more power and land. Being king was never boring for Henry!

Even though Henry's kingdom broke apart after he died, he did some really important things. He made new laws that are still used in England today, called 'Common Law'. It's like he created the rules for how fairness works in the country. He also helped shape how Wales, Ireland, and Scotland were run. So, even though he's gone, his ideas still matter a lot!
