They are also the leader for lots of churches all around the world that are part of the Anglican Communion. Think of it like being the principal of a school, but for churches! They also have a special job in the government, sitting in a big room called the House of Lords.

A Super Old Job!

This job is super old, starting way back in the year 597! The very first Archbishop was a man named Augustine. He was sent all the way from Rome to help start the church in England. Imagine traveling that far back then! For a long, long time, the Archbishops were part of the Catholic Church, but then King Henry VIII made some big changes and started the Church of England.

Why They're So Important!

The Archbishop is a really important person because they guide the church and help make big decisions. They are like the main storyteller for the church's beliefs. When there are big events or important messages to share, the Archbishop is often the one to do it. They also help make sure that churches all over the world that follow the same ideas stay connected.

How a New Leader is Chosen!

Choosing a new Archbishop isn't like picking a class president! The King or Queen of England chooses the new Archbishop, but they get advice from the Prime Minister. Then, a special group of people from the church votes. It's a very important process to make sure the right person is chosen for this big job.
