Where is This Wild Place?

Gulf Country is a super big area in the top part of Australia, right next to a giant sea called the Gulf of Carpentaria. It's like a giant, grassy playground that stretches across two places: Queensland and the Northern Territory. This land is mostly flat and covered in tall grasses and trees, perfect for animals to roam. It's also known as the Gulf Savannah because of all the grassy plains!

Sunshine and Big Rains!

The weather in Gulf Country is really interesting. It has a dry time when it's sunny and warm, and then a wet time called the monsoon season. During the monsoon, lots of rain falls, filling up the big rivers that flow through the land. These rivers are super important for all the plants and animals that live there. The land has the biggest areas of native grass in all of Australia!

What Do People Do There?

People in Gulf Country have some important jobs. Many people raise cows on huge farms called cattle stations. There are also lots of shiny treasures hidden under the ground, like zinc, lead, and silver, which people mine. This helps make things we use every day. The land is also home to special animals, and some of them are even endangered, which means they need extra help to stay safe.

Exploring the Gulf!

The first European person to explore this amazing land was a sailor named Willem Janszoon a very, very long time ago. Today, you can drive across this big country on a road called the Savannah Way. It's a long journey through beautiful landscapes. Gulf Country is a special place with lots to see and learn about, from its big rivers to its unique animals.
