Who Were the Goths?

Imagine a group of super strong people who lived a long, long time ago, even before your grandparents were born! These were the Goths. They were a Germanic people, which means they came from a part of Europe.

They were known for being brave and strong. They lived in lands north of a big river called the Danube, in places that are now countries like Ukraine and Romania. They were like the explorers of their time, moving around and making a big impact!

On the Move!

The Goths were always on the move! Sometimes they would travel to raid places, like a big adventure. Other times, they joined the Roman army, which was like a giant, powerful group back then.

They were so good at fighting that they even defeated the Roman army in a famous battle! Later, some Goths moved into Roman lands seeking safety. It was like moving to a new neighborhood, but with a lot more history and excitement.

Building Kingdoms!

After all their travels, some Goths became super important leaders. One group, called the Visigoths, even marched all the way to the city of Rome and took it over! That's like a small team taking over a giant playground. Another group, the Ostrogoths, created their own kingdom in Italy. These kingdoms were like their own special countries, showing how much the Goths could achieve.

Goths Today?

Even though the ancient Goths aren't around as a people anymore, their name lives on! You might hear about 'Gothic architecture' which means buildings with tall pointy windows and arches, or even a modern music style called 'Goth'. These things are named after the ancient Goths because they sounded strong and mysterious, like the people themselves.

So, the Goths are still a part of our world, even after thousands of years!
