Hello, Tallest Friend!

Giraffes are amazing animals that live in Africa. They are the tallest mammals on Earth! Imagine a creature so tall it could peek into a second-story window.

That's a giraffe! Their long necks help them reach leaves high up in trees that other animals can't get to. They have beautiful, patchy coats that help them blend in with the trees, like a natural camouflage.

They are very peaceful animals and spend most of their day eating and walking around.

What's for Lunch?

Giraffes are herbivores, which means they only eat plants. Their favorite food is the leaves and twigs from acacia trees. Their long necks are perfect for this! They also eat flowers and fruits. To drink water, giraffes have to do a funny little dance. They spread their front legs wide apart or bend their knees to reach down to the water. It looks a bit wobbly, but it's how they get a drink!

Super Giraffe Powers!

Did you know a giraffe's tongue can be as long as your arm? It's dark blue or purple and very strong, helping them grab leaves without getting pricked by thorns. A giraffe's heart is also super powerful, weighing as much as a small dog! It needs to pump blood all the way up that long neck to its brain. When they run, giraffes can gallop surprisingly fast, almost as fast as a horse!

Giraffe Babies and Homes

Baby giraffes are called calves. When a calf is born, it's already about 6 feet tall! It can stand up and walk within an hour of being born. Giraffes live in places called savannas and grasslands in Africa. These are open areas with scattered trees and bushes. Sadly, giraffes are becoming rarer, so scientists are working hard to protect them and their homes.
