Giovanni da Pian del Carpine

Giovanni da Pian del Carpine was an Italian explorer and a brave messenger from a long, long time ago. He was like a super-spy, but instead of secrets, he carried messages for the Pope! His job was to travel to faraway lands and talk to powerful leaders.

He was one of the very first Europeans to visit the lands of the mighty Mongol Empire and meet their leader, the Great Khan. Think of him as a history detective, uncovering new places and stories!

Giovanni lived a super long time ago, around the time knights and castles were popular. He was sent on a very important mission by the Pope. He had to travel thousands of miles, which is like going to the moon and back many times!

He traveled across big plains and through cold lands to reach the Great Khan. This journey was so long and dangerous, it would take many months, maybe even a whole year, to complete!
