Giovanni Angelo Becciu

Imagine someone who used to have a very important job, like being a principal at a super big school! Giovanni Angelo Becciu was like that, but for the Catholic Church. He was born a long, long time ago, in 1948, on a beautiful island called Sardinia. He became a cardinal, which is a very high-ranking person in the Church, and even had a special job helping decide if people could become saints!

For many years, Becciu worked in places like Cuba and Angola, helping the Pope. Then, he got an even bigger job right in the Vatican, which is like the Pope's home and office. He was in charge of a department that looked into people who might become saints. This was a really big deal, and he was considered very important in the Church for a while.

But then, things got complicated. Becciu was accused of doing some wrong things with money, like taking it when he shouldn't have. This is called embezzlement. He was also accused of using his power unfairly. It was like a big puzzle with lots of pieces, and investigators had to figure out what happened. Guess what? It was the very first time a cardinal, a super important person, had to go on trial in a Vatican court! It was a huge event. In the end, after a lot of investigation, Becciu was found guilty of the charges. He was sentenced to spend time in prison and had to pay a fine.
