George E. Mylonas

Imagine a detective, but instead of solving mysteries with clues, George E. Mylonas solved them by digging in the dirt! He was an archaeologist, which means he loved finding and studying old things from long, long ago.

He was especially good at finding ancient cities and treasures in Greece. He dug up places like Olynthus, Eleusis, and Mycenae. These were once busy cities, but now they were buried under the ground, waiting for someone like George to find them!

George was born in a city called Smyrna a long, long time ago. When he grew up, he became a soldier and fought in a war. It was a tough time, and he even became a prisoner!

But George was brave and escaped. Later, he came to America and worked with a special school that helped him dig for ancient wonders. He traveled to many exciting places, always looking for clues about how people lived thousands of years ago.

One of George's biggest adventures was digging at a place called Mycenae. He found special burial spots, like ancient tombs, called Grave Circle B. These were some of the oldest fancy graves ever found there! He also helped figure out what a special 'Cult Center' was used for. It’s like he pieced together a giant puzzle of history, showing us how important these ancient places were.
