Who Was Coronado?
Francisco Vázquez de Coronado was a brave explorer from Spain a long, long time ago. He was like a super-detective, but instead of solving mysteries, he looked for amazing new places. He was born in a country called Spain, which is across a big ocean from America.

His Big Trip to Find Gold!
Coronado and his friends went on a super long journey. They started in Mexico, which is south of the United States. They traveled for years, all the way up to a place called Kansas!
They were looking for something called the Seven Cities of Gold. People told stories about these cities being made of pure gold, like a giant treasure chest! They rode horses and walked for miles and miles, seeing new lands.
Amazing Things They Saw!
Even though they didn't find the cities of gold, Coronado's trip was super important. His group was the very first group of Europeans to see some amazing places in America. They saw the Grand Canyon, which is like a giant hole in the ground, deeper than a skyscraper is tall! They also saw the Colorado River, a long, winding snake of water. These were incredible sights!
