Meet Francisco Pizarro!

Francisco Pizarro was a Spanish explorer, like a treasure hunter from long ago. He was born in a country called Spain, a very, very long time ago, around the year 1478. He wasn't born into a rich family, but he dreamed of adventure and finding amazing things in faraway lands.

He sailed across a big ocean to a place called the New World, which is now known as the Americas. He was super curious and helped discover the Pacific Ocean!

The Quest for the Inca Empire!

Pizarro heard stories about a super rich empire called the Inca Empire, hidden high up in the mountains. He really wanted to find it and bring its treasures back to Spain. He tried a few times, but it was tricky!

Finally, he got permission to go on a big adventure to conquer the Inca Empire. He sailed with his soldiers and landed in a place that is now Peru. He was determined to find the Inca's gold and cities.

A King's Ransom!

When Pizarro found the Inca leader, Emperor Atahualpa, he captured him! To be set free, Atahualpa promised to fill a whole room with gold and two rooms with silver. Imagine a room so big it could be filled with shiny treasures!

Pizarro agreed, and the Inca people brought tons of gold and silver. But, sadly, Pizarro didn't keep his promise. He accused Atahualpa of crimes and had him executed, which was a very sad ending.

Building a New City!

After conquering the Inca Empire, Pizarro didn't just go home. He helped build new cities for the Spanish people. One of the most important cities he founded was Lima, which is still the capital of Peru today!

He wanted to make sure the Spanish had a strong place in this new land. Even though he was a famous explorer, Pizarro eventually had problems with other Spanish leaders and was sadly killed in 1541.
