Fidel Castro

Imagine a leader who was in charge of a whole country for a super long time, almost 50 years! That was Fidel Castro in Cuba. He was born a long, long time ago, in 1926, and he was a very important person in Cuba's story.

He helped lead a big change in his country called a revolution. He wanted Cuba to be different, and he made many changes that lasted for decades. He was like the captain of a ship, steering Cuba through many different seas.

Fidel Castro and his friends wanted to change Cuba. They fought against the leader at the time, Fulgencio Batista. It was like a big game of tag, but much more serious!

After a lot of effort, Fidel and his team won, and he became the leader of Cuba in 1959. He then made Cuba a place where one political party was in charge, and he changed how businesses and schools worked. It was a huge shift for the island nation!

Fidel Castro was the leader of Cuba from 1959 all the way until 2008. That's longer than you've been alive, and longer than your parents have been alive! He was the Prime Minister and then the President.

During his time, Cuba became friends with the Soviet Union, which was a very big country back then. He also helped other countries that wanted to have their own revolutions. He was a very busy leader on the world stage!

Even though Fidel Castro was the main leader for so long, he eventually passed on his responsibilities to his brother, Raúl Castro, in 2006. Fidel Castro passed away in 2016 when he was 90 years old. He was a very important and sometimes controversial figure.

Some people thought he was a hero for helping the poor and standing up to other powerful countries, while others disagreed with his methods. His story is a big part of Cuba's history.
