Who Was King Ferdinand?

Imagine a king named Ferdinand! He was born a long, long time ago, in 1865. He wasn't born to be king right away, but he became the King of Romania in 1914.

He was like a captain of a big ship, guiding his country. He was known as Ferdinand the Unifier because he helped Romania become much larger. He was married to Queen Marie, and they had a big family.

He loved his country and worked hard to make it a better place for everyone.

Romania Gets Bigger!

When Ferdinand became king, Romania was a certain size. But then, a big event called World War I happened. Ferdinand made a brave choice to help one side win.

After the war, Romania got much, much bigger! It was like getting a giant new playground with extra slides and swings. Lands called Bessarabia, Bukovina, and Transylvania joined Romania.

Ferdinand was then crowned king of this 'Greater Romania' in a super special ceremony. It was a very exciting time!

A King's Big Decisions

Being a king means making important choices. Ferdinand had to decide which side to support in World War I. This was a really tough decision!

He also wanted Romania to be fair. He helped make sure more people could vote, like choosing class representatives. He also wanted to share the land more fairly.

These changes helped shape Romania into the country it is today. He was a king who cared about his people's future.

Ferdinand's Family Story

Kings and queens have families too! Ferdinand and Queen Marie had children. His oldest son, Prince Carol, was supposed to become king after Ferdinand.

But Prince Carol decided he didn't want to be king and gave up his spot! This caused a bit of a stir. So, Ferdinand's grandson, a little boy named Michael, became the next in line.

It's like a royal game of musical chairs! Ferdinand passed away in 1927, but his legacy lived on.
