Far East

Long, long ago, people in Europe used the name 'Far East' because it was the farthest place they knew of in the East. It was like saying 'way, way over there!' They also had a 'Near East' and a 'Middle East,' so the 'Far East' was the one that was the most distant. It helped them talk about different parts of the world.
