Extinction: When Animals Say Goodbye Forever!

Extinction is like when a whole group of animals or plants just disappears from Earth, and they never, ever come back. It's like if all the dinosaurs suddenly vanished! This can happen for many reasons.

Sometimes, their home, called a habitat, gets destroyed, or there isn't enough food for them to eat. Other times, new animals might come along that are too fast or too strong for them. It's a sad ending for any living thing.

Extinction has been happening for a super long time, even before humans were around! The biggest extinction event happened ages ago and wiped out most of the dinosaurs. But extinction can also happen more recently.

For example, the Dodo bird, which looked a bit like a funny, flightless pigeon, is now extinct. It lived on an island and disappeared because people and animals brought by ships arrived there.

When an animal or plant goes extinct, it's like a puzzle piece is missing from our world. Every living thing has a job to do, like helping plants grow or keeping other animals healthy. It also means we lose the chance to learn amazing things from them, like how they survived or what cool things they could do!

Scientists are very worried about extinction because it's happening faster now. We can help by taking care of our planet. This means not littering, saving water and energy, and planting trees. We can also learn about animals and plants that are in danger and tell others why they are important. By being good friends to Earth, we can help prevent more living things from becoming extinct.
