Elephants

Elephants are the largest animals walking on land today! They have long, wiggly trunks that they use like a hand to grab food, drink water, and even say hello. Their big, floppy ears help them stay cool when it's hot. There are two main kinds of elephants: African elephants and Asian elephants. African elephants are usually bigger and have much larger ears that look like the continent of Africa!

Elephants live in warm places called savannas, forests, and deserts. African elephants can be found in many parts of Africa, like grasslands and woodlands. Asian elephants live in forests and grasslands in countries like India and Thailand. They need lots of space to roam and find yummy food to eat. Imagine a giant playground for these enormous creatures!

Elephants are herbivores, which means they only eat plants! They munch on grass, leaves, bark, and fruits. Their super-strong trunks are perfect for reaching high branches or pulling up tasty grass. An adult elephant can eat a LOT of food every single day – sometimes as much as a small car weighs! They also love to drink water with their trunks, squirting it into their mouths.

Elephants are HUGE! A grown-up African elephant can weigh as much as 10,000 pounds, which is heavier than a school bus! They can also be as tall as a giraffe. Even though they are so big, they can move surprisingly fast when they need to. They live for a very long time, sometimes as long as 70 years, which is longer than many people live!
