Who Was This Super Emperor?

Imagine a super-important leader from a long, long time ago called Constantine. He was a Roman emperor, which meant he was like the boss of a giant empire! He was born way back in the year 272.

Constantine was super famous because he was the first Roman emperor to become a Christian. This was a HUGE deal because before him, Christians were sometimes treated unfairly. He helped make sure everyone could practice their religion without being scared.

From Soldier to Emperor!

Constantine didn't start as emperor. He was a brave soldier and his dad was also a big deal in the Roman army. When his father passed away, his own soldiers shouted, 'You're the emperor now!' That's how he became the boss. He had to fight some tough battles to become the main ruler of the whole Roman Empire. It was like winning a super-hard video game to become the ultimate champion!

Building a New Capital City!

One of Constantine's coolest projects was building a brand new capital city for his empire. He chose a place called Byzantium and made it super grand, renaming it Constantinople. This city was so important that it stayed the capital for over a thousand years!

That's longer than your grandparents' grandparents' grandparents have been alive! Today, that city is called Istanbul and it's still a very important place.

Making Christianity Shine!

Constantine did something amazing for Christians. He made a special rule called the Edict of Milan. This rule said that Christians could practice their religion freely and wouldn't be punished anymore.

It was like saying, 'Everyone can play their favorite game now!' He also helped build beautiful churches, like the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, which is a very special place for Christians.
