Meet the Giant Paddle-Nosed Fish!

The Chinese paddlefish was a super-duper big fish that lived in China's rivers, like the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers. It had a very special nose that looked like a giant paddle! This paddle helped it find food in the murky water. It was one of the biggest freshwater fish ever, sometimes growing longer than a school bus!

Where Did They Go?

Sadly, these amazing fish are no longer swimming in our rivers. They disappeared because people built big dams, like the Three Gorges Dam, which blocked their way to lay eggs. Overfishing also made it hard for them to survive. The last time anyone saw a live Chinese paddlefish was in 2003. It's like they vanished from the world!

A Fishy Family Tree

The Chinese paddlefish was part of a special fish family called paddlefish. There was only one other kind of paddlefish, and it lived in America! So, these two paddlefish were like distant cousins. The Chinese paddlefish was unique, meaning it was the only one in its whole scientific group, called Psephurus.

Why We Miss Them

It's sad that we can't see these giant fish anymore. They were an important part of the rivers they lived in. Losing a whole type of animal, especially one so big and unique, is a big loss for nature. It reminds us to take care of our planet and all the creatures that call it home.
