The Cenozoic: When Mammals Ruled!

The Cenozoic is a super long time in Earth's history, like a giant chapter in a book. It started about 66 million years ago, right after the dinosaurs disappeared. Suddenly, there was lots of space for new animals to grow and explore.

This is when mammals, like fuzzy little creatures, started to get bigger and become the bosses of the land. Think of it as a big party for animals who could keep warm and have babies that drank milk!

Before the Cenozoic, tiny mammals hid from the giant dinosaurs. But when the dinosaurs were gone, these little guys had a chance to shine! They started changing, or evolving, to fit into all the empty spaces.

Some became fast runners, like horses, while others became huge, like mammoths that were bigger than a school bus! Birds also got to spread their wings and fly all over the world. It was a time of amazing animal adventures.

Guess what? We are mammals! That means our great-great-great-great-grandparents lived during the Cenozoic. All the animals we see today, from tiny mice to giant whales, have their roots in this amazing time. Even the plants changed a lot, with more flowers and grasses growing. This helped shape the world we live in and made it a great place for humans to eventually appear and explore!

The Cenozoic was full of incredible animals. There were giant ground sloths that were as tall as a house and ate plants. Saber-toothed cats with enormous teeth hunted other animals. Woolly mammoths, like fuzzy elephants, roamed in cold places. And don't forget the early horses and rhinos! These animals were all part of the Cenozoic family, showing how diverse life became after the dinosaurs.
