Bronx River Parkway - New York

Key Facts
Where Does the River Play?
Imagine a wiggly blue line on a map! That's the Bronx River, about 24 miles long. It starts way up north in a place called Westchester, near a giant water holder called Kensico Reservoir.
It flows south, like a sleepy snake, all the way to the big, busy city of New York. It even goes through famous spots like the Bronx Zoo and the New York Botanical Garden. That's a lot of places for a river to visit!
A River with a Name Story!
This river got its name from a person named Jonas Bronck, who lived a super long time ago. The land where the river started used to be called Quaropes by the people who lived there first. They called it that because it had white, marshy spots. Now, a small stream from the reservoir is its boss, telling it where to go. It's like the river has a new captain!
Splitting the City in Two!
The Bronx River is like a divider. It splits Westchester County into two parts and then, when it gets to the Bronx, it splits that big borough into East and West! It's like drawing a line down the middle of a playground. It’s a super important marker for where things are. It finally flows into the East River, which is connected to the big ocean!
Home to Fun Places!
Guess what? This river flows right through some of the coolest places in New York City! It winds its way past the Bronx Zoo, where you can see lions and tigers, and the New York Botanical Garden, filled with amazing plants. It’s like the river is the VIP guest at these awesome spots. It makes the city a little bit wilder and greener!
