Key Facts
Why Were They Fighting?
Once upon a time, a very famous leader named Napoleon was like a superhero with a giant army called the Grande Armée. He was winning lots of battles and making many countries join him. But other countries, like Austria, Prussia, Sweden, and Russia, got together to say, 'Enough is enough!' They formed a team called the Coalition to stop Napoleon from getting too powerful and to protect their own lands.
The Biggest Battle Ever!
This battle happened a long, long time ago, from October 16th to 19th, 1813, near a city called Leipzig. It was like a giant playground brawl, but with over half a million soldiers! That's more people than can fit in most big stadiums. They used so many cannons, it was like a never-ending fireworks show, but much louder and more dangerous. It was the biggest battle of that whole war!
Who Was in Charge?
On one side was Napoleon, the super-leader with his Grande Armée, which included soldiers from France, Poland, Italy, and parts of Germany. On the other side was the big team of countries: Austria, Prussia, Sweden, and Russia. Their leaders included Tsar Alexander I, Karl von Schwarzenberg, and Gebhard von Blücher. They all worked together to try and beat Napoleon.
What Happened Next?
Guess what? The team of countries won this super-big battle! Napoleon's army was defeated, and he had to go back home to France. Because they won, the other countries kept going and even went into France. Napoleon had to give up being emperor and was sent away to a small island called Elba. It was a huge turning point in the big wars happening then!
