Key Facts
Where is This Amazing Place?
Badakhshan is a special part of Afghanistan, way up in the northeast corner. It's like a giant puzzle piece tucked between other countries. To the north, it touches Tajikistan, and to the southeast, it meets parts of Pakistan. It's a land of very, very tall mountains, so high they tickle the clouds!
The Tallest Mountain Ever!
Get ready for a WOW fact! Badakhshan is home to the highest mountain in all of Afghanistan. It’s called Noshaq, and it’s super tall, like a giant skyscraper made of rock and snow. Imagine a mountain so high, it’s much taller than any building you’ve ever seen!
A Secret Door to China?
Here's another cool secret: Badakhshan has a tiny, super-long border with China! It’s only about 57 miles long, which is like the distance from your house to a faraway park. This special sliver of land is called the Wakhan District, and it’s the only place in Afghanistan that touches China.
Lots of Villages and People!
Even though it has huge mountains, Badakhshan is home to lots of people! There are over 1,200 villages scattered across the land. Imagine a whole bunch of tiny towns and neighborhoods all living together in this mountainous region. The main city where the leaders meet is called Fayzabad.
