Australian Capital Territory

Imagine a special spot in Australia that's not a state but a territory! The Australian Capital Territory, or ACT, is like a little secret garden surrounded by a much bigger garden called New South Wales. It's right in the middle of the southeastern part of Australia.

The most important city here is Canberra, which is like the boss city because it's where Australia's leaders make big decisions for the whole country. It's a landlocked place, meaning no oceans are nearby, but it has beautiful parks and a special climate.

A long, long time ago, when Australia first became one country, they needed a special place for their new capital city. They chose a spot in New South Wales, far away from any big cities like Sydney. In 1911, New South Wales gave this land to the Australian government.

Then, they built a whole new city called Canberra, which was officially named in 1913. It was like building a brand new playground from scratch, just for the country's important jobs!

Even though Canberra is a busy city with important buildings, the ACT is also home to amazing nature! Most of the ACT is actually a huge national park called Namadgi National Park. This park is full of mountains, forests, and wild animals.
