Angela Merkel

Angela Merkel was like the captain of a big ship called Germany for a super long time – 16 years! She was born a long, long time ago in 1954. Even though she was born in one part of Germany, her family moved to another part when she was just a baby. She was really smart and studied science before becoming a leader.

Before becoming a leader, Angela was a scientist who studied tiny, invisible things called quantum chemistry. That's like being a detective for atoms! Then, when Germany changed a lot, she decided to help lead the country. She worked her way up, just like climbing the ladder at school, until she became the top leader, the Chancellor!

Angela Merkel was the first woman ever to be the leader of Germany! That's a huge deal! She helped Germany work with other countries, like friends sharing toys. She also made sure Germany used clean energy, like sunshine and wind, to make electricity instead of using up too much of the Earth's resources.

She was the leader of Germany for so long that many kids grew up only knowing her as their leader! She helped Germany through tricky times, like when money was a problem for many countries. She was known for being calm and thinking carefully before making big decisions. She retired from being the leader in 2021.
