Where in the World Was East Berlin?

East Berlin was like the capital city of a country called East Germany. It was located in the middle of another part of Germany called West Berlin. Think of it like having two different playgrounds right next to each other, but you could only play on one side for a long time! It was a busy city with lots of streets and buildings, just like your town.

A City Divided by a Wall!

For many years, East Berlin and West Berlin were separated by a very famous, very tall wall called the Berlin Wall. This wall was built to keep people from going from East Berlin to West Berlin. It was so tall, it was taller than a giraffe! People couldn't just walk across to visit friends or family on the other side.

What Was Life Like?

In East Berlin, the government made most of the decisions about what people did. People worked in factories making things like cars and machines. They also had schools, parks, and shops, just like in other cities. But life was different because of the wall and the rules. It was a place with its own unique way of living.

When the Wall Came Down!

The most exciting thing happened in 1989 when the Berlin Wall finally came down! People were so happy they could finally visit each other again. A year later, East Berlin and West Berlin became one big city again, called Berlin. It was like the two playgrounds finally joined together!
