Meet the Mighty Volta!

Imagine a super long river, like a giant blue snake, winding its way through a country called Ghana. That's the Volta River! It starts way up north in another country, Burkina Faso, and flows all the way south to the big, blue Atlantic Ocean. It's so important that Ghana used to be called Upper Volta, named after this amazing river!

Three Rivers in One!

The Volta River isn't just one river, it's actually made of three main parts: the Black Volta, the White Volta, and the Red Volta. They all join up to make the big Volta we know. The Black Volta even makes borders between countries, like a natural fence! It's like having three best friends who always stick together.

A Lake Bigger Than Your Town!

Guess what? People built a giant wall, called a dam, to stop the Volta River. This created a HUGE lake called Lake Volta! It's the biggest lake made by people in the whole world. It's so big, it stretches from the south of Ghana all the way to the north. It's like having a giant swimming pool that covers almost the whole country!

Powering Up Ghana!

That big dam, called Akosombo Dam, does something super cool. It uses the rushing water from the river to make electricity! This electricity powers homes, schools, and even lights up the cities. So, the Volta River is like a giant power plant, giving energy to everyone in Ghana. It's a true superhero river!
