Meet the Giant School!

The University of British Columbia, or UBC for short, is like a super big school in Canada! It has two main places, one near a city called Vancouver and another in a town called Kelowna. Think of it as having two awesome playgrounds for learning.

It's a place where students go to become doctors, scientists, artists, and so much more. It's one of the biggest universities in Canada, full of buildings and places to explore and learn new things every single day.

Where Did This Big School Come From?

UBC started a long, long time ago, but it grew bigger and bigger over the years. It's like a tiny seed that grew into a giant tree! The main part near Vancouver is on a beautiful piece of land called Point Grey.

It's so big, it's 10 kilometers west of downtown Vancouver, which is like a really long bike ride! They also have another campus that joined them more recently, in 2005, in a place called Kelowna.

Super Cool Inventions Happen Here!

UBC is a place where amazing discoveries are made! They have a special lab that's the biggest of its kind in the whole world, where scientists study tiny, tiny particles. They also have a special place that studies super-duper small things called quantum matter.

It’s like having a secret headquarters for inventing the future! They spend a lot of money, like $893 million each year, just to help scientists invent new things.

Lots of Smarty Pants Go Here!

So many clever people have studied at UBC! Imagine winning a gold medal at the Olympics – lots of Olympians went to UBC! Some people who studied there even became Prime Ministers, which is like being the leader of the country.

And guess what? Eight people from UBC have won a Nobel Prize, which is a super special award for brilliant ideas. It's a place that helps people become the best they can be!
