Key Facts
A Monkey With a Squished-Up Nose!
Imagine a monkey with a nose that looks like it's been gently squished! That's the Tonkin snub-nosed monkey. It has soft black and white fur, and its face is special with pink lips and nose. Around its eyes, there are bright blue patches, like it's wearing cool sunglasses! These monkeys are very slender and love to swing through trees high up in the mountains of Vietnam.
Where Do These Amazing Monkeys Live?
These shy monkeys live in a very specific place: the rocky, hilly forests of northern Vietnam. They like to live high up, between the height of a tall building and a very tall tree, on mountains made of limestone. These forests are like puzzle pieces, with patches of trees separated by rocky areas. It's a beautiful but tricky home for them to find food and stay safe.
Super Rare and Special!
The Tonkin snub-nosed monkey is one of the rarest monkeys in the whole world! There are only five kinds of snub-nosed monkeys, and this one is the most special because there are so few of them. Scientists think there are fewer than 250 of these monkeys left. That's less than the number of kids in a big school! This makes them very important to protect.
Why We Need to Help Them
Sadly, these amazing monkeys are in danger. Their forest homes are disappearing, and sometimes people hunt them. Because they are so rare, losing even a few monkeys makes a big difference. Scientists and people who love animals are working very hard to protect the Tonkin snub-nosed monkeys and their homes so they can keep swinging in the trees for a long, long time.
