Tiwanaku: A Lost City of Stone!

Tiwanaku was a super important city built a very, very long time ago, even before the Incas! It was near a big lake in South America. People there were amazing builders.

They used huge stones to make incredible buildings and giant gates. It was like a city made of giant LEGOs, but way bigger and older! Think of buildings taller than a school bus and gates so big you could walk through them easily.

The people who built Tiwanaku were called the Tiwanaku culture. They lived there for hundreds of years, starting around 300 AD. They were super smart and organized.

They grew lots of food, like potatoes and corn, even though they lived high up in the mountains. They traded with other people too. This city was their home and the center of their world, where they had big parties and important ceremonies.

Tiwanaku is famous for its incredible stone carvings and massive structures. The most famous part is the Gateway of the Sun. It's a giant stone archway with amazing pictures carved into it.

Imagine a stone door taller than a house! The people of Tiwanaku were also great engineers. They built raised fields to grow crops, which helped them survive in a place with tricky weather.

This shows how clever they were!

After being a thriving city for many years, Tiwanaku slowly became less populated. Around 1000 AD, something changed. Maybe the weather got too dry, or maybe people moved away to find new homes.

The city wasn't completely forgotten, though. Today, it's a famous archaeological site where scientists study the past. It helps us learn about the people who lived there and how they built such an amazing place.
