Syrian opposition (2011–2024)

Imagine a big team of people in Syria who didn't agree with their leader, Bashar al-Assad. They were called the Syrian opposition. They wanted things to change in their country. Some were regular people who started by holding peaceful protests, like a big school walkout! Others were soldiers who decided to join the opposition. They all wanted a different future for Syria.

It all began with lots of people gathering in the streets to show they wanted change. When things got more serious, some soldiers left the army and formed a group called the Free Syrian Army. It was like a new team forming on the playground! Later, people who were living outside of Syria also started organizing. They formed groups to speak for the opposition, trying to work together.

The main goal was to see a change in who was leading Syria. They wanted a government that listened to the people. Some groups even tried to set up their own mini-governments in areas they controlled, like having their own classroom rules! They hoped to create a new Syria where everyone had a voice. They also wanted to help people who were suffering because of the conflict.

It wasn't always easy for the opposition. Sometimes, the different groups had trouble agreeing on who should lead them, like when friends can't decide on a game to play. This made it harder for them to be strong. Even with these challenges, they kept trying to work towards their goal of a different Syria, with some groups becoming very powerful over time.
