Sint Eustatius

Sint Eustatius, or 'Statia' for short, is a small island way out in the warm Caribbean Sea. It's like a little speck of land southeast of the Virgin Islands. If you looked on a map, it's near other islands called Saint Kitts and Saba.

It's part of a group of islands called the Dutch Caribbean, which means it's connected to the Netherlands, a country far away in Europe! The main town is called Oranjestad, and it's the heart of the island.

Long, long ago, Statia was a super important place for a big fight called the American War for Independence. Imagine a playground where one group of kids is trying to get something, and Statia was like a secret helper! It sent gunpowder and supplies to the American fighters.

This was so important that the British army even captured Statia because it was helping the Americans so much. Later, the French navy took it back! It's like a tiny island that played a big role in history.

Statia is a very small island, only about 8.1 square miles. That's smaller than many school playgrounds! People get to Statia by flying into F.
