What's This Cool Island?

Saint Kitts is a super special island in a place called the West Indies. It's like a little gem floating in the big blue sea! On one side, you can dip your toes in the Caribbean Sea, and on the other, the mighty Atlantic Ocean waves crash.

This island is so close to another island called Nevis that they are like best friends, forming one country together. They are separated by a small stretch of water called 'The Narrows', which is only about as long as three football fields!

Who Lived Here First?

Long, long ago, around 400 years back, brave explorers from France and Britain decided Saint Kitts was the perfect place to start new homes. They were the very first people from Europe to settle here! For a long time, Saint Kitts and Nevis were part of a big group of islands called the British West Indies.

Then, in 1983, they decided to become their own independent country, like grown-ups making their own rules!

A Fortress Taller Than a Giraffe!

Get ready for a WOW fact! Saint Kitts has a giant stone castle called Brimstone Hill Fortress. It's the biggest fortress ever built in the Eastern Caribbean!

Imagine a castle so big it would take you all day to walk around it. It's also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which means it's super important and needs to be protected. This island also hosted part of the Cricket World Cup, making it the smallest country ever to host such a big sports event!

Island Life and Learning

About 40,000 people call Saint Kitts home, and they are called Kittitians! Most of them have ancestors from Africa. Everyone speaks English, and almost everyone knows how to read and write.

The island is about as long as 18 miles, which is like walking from your house to a friend's house many towns away. It's also home to special schools where people learn to become doctors for animals and people!
