Seonjo of Joseon

Imagine being a king! Seonjo was a king of Joseon, a country that is now called Korea. He was born way back in 1552, which is over 470 years ago! That's older than your grandparents' grandparents! He became king when he was just a teenager, like some kids in middle school. He had to make big decisions for his country and his people.

When Seonjo was king, a huge army from Japan, called the Japanese, invaded Joseon. It was like a giant bully trying to take over their playground! The Japanese army was very strong, and Seonjo's own soldiers weren't ready. The king had to run away from his palace to keep himself safe. It was a very difficult time for everyone in Joseon.

Even though the king had to flee, many brave people in Joseon fought back! There were amazing generals like Yi Sun-sin, who was like a superhero of the sea. He used special turtle-shaped ships to defeat the Japanese navy. Ordinary people also helped hide soldiers and gather supplies. Their bravery helped save Joseon!

The war lasted for many years, and it was very hard on Joseon. King Seonjo eventually returned to his palace. He ruled for a long time, until he passed away in 1608. Even though his reign had tough times, the story of Joseon's fight for freedom is still told today. It shows how important bravery and working together are.
