Meet the Mountain Giants!

The San Gabriel Mountains are like a giant, bumpy backbone for California! They are super tall, with the highest point, Mount Baldy, reaching way up into the clouds. These mountains are home to lots of trees and cool animals. They are so big they stretch across two counties, Los Angeles and San Bernardino. Think of them as a huge playground made of rock and dirt, perfect for exploring!

Where the Mountains Play

These mountains sit between a big, flat area called the Los Angeles Basin and a sandy, desert place called the Mojave Desert. It's like they are a big wall separating two different worlds! Two big roads, called Interstate 5 and Interstate 15, zoom past them.

Lots of people live near these mountains, and they are protected by special places called National Forests, like a giant nature park for everyone to enjoy.

Secrets in the Peaks

Did you know one of these mountains, Mount Wilson, has a super-duper telescope? It's like a giant eye looking at the stars! Scientists use it to see far, far away planets and galaxies.

Also, many TV and radio stations send their signals from antennas on Mount Wilson, so you can watch your favorite shows and listen to music. These mountains are not just pretty, they're also super important for science and fun!

A Special Protected Place

Guess what? The President of the United States decided that a big part of these mountains is so special, it's now a National Monument! This means it's extra protected, like a treasure chest of nature. People work hard to keep these mountains clean and safe for all the plants and animals that live there. It’s a place for hiking, playing, and learning about our amazing planet.
