Fortress

A fortress is like a super-duper safe house for a whole town or an army! It's a building or a group of buildings with really thick walls, tall towers, and sometimes even a moat filled with water. These strong places were built a long, long time ago to protect people from enemies who might want to attack.

Think of it as a giant shield made of stone and earth, keeping everyone inside safe and sound. They were the ultimate hideouts!

Fortresses have been around for thousands of years! Early ones were simple forts made of wood or mud. But as people got better at building, they started making them out of stone.

Knights and kings loved them because they were hard to break into. Imagine a castle that’s as tall as a 10-story building, with walls so thick a few cars could drive side-by-side on top! They were the best way to stay safe when times were tough.

Fortresses were super important because they kept people safe! If an army was coming, everyone could run inside the strong walls and be protected. They were like giant safety bubbles.

Inside, people could store food and water, and soldiers could watch out for danger from the tall towers. Without fortresses, towns and cities would have been much easier to attack and conquer. They were the key to survival for many communities.

Fortresses had special tricks to stay safe. Their walls were super thick, so attackers couldn't easily break them down. Towers gave soldiers a high place to see enemies coming from far away and shoot arrows.

Some fortresses had moats, which were like big ditches filled with water around the outside. It was hard for enemies to cross the water and climb the walls! They also had gates that could be closed tightly to keep invaders out.
