Richard Wellesley, 1st Marquess Wellesley

Imagine a very important grown-up named Richard Wellesley! He was born a long, long time ago, in 1760. He was like a super-manager for a huge country called India, specifically a part of it called Bengal.

He made big decisions and was in charge of lots of people. He even had a famous brother who was a great soldier! Richard was given a fancy title, Marquess Wellesley, which is like being a very important noble person.

Richard Wellesley traveled all the way to India to be the Governor-General of Bengal. This was like being the principal of a giant school, but much, much bigger! He was there from 1798 to 1805. During his time, he led his armies to win a big battle against a ruler named Tipu. He also started another big conflict called the Second Anglo-Maratha War. These were huge events that changed history!

Richard Wellesley was super important because his decisions changed how Britain ruled parts of India. He was a powerful leader who made big plans and carried them out.
