Long, Long Ago in the Congo
People have lived in this land for thousands of years! Long before cars or even houses like we know them, clever groups of people called Bantu tribes were here. They were great traders and traveled along the big Congo River.
Later, powerful kingdoms like the Tio and Loango kingdoms grew strong. Then, about 100 years ago, France came and made it part of their big empire. Finally, in 1960, the Republic of the Congo became its own independent country, free to make its own choices!

They are also known for having lots of oil, which helps their country, but they are working hard to make sure everyone benefits from it.
