Who is Raúl Castro?
Raúl Castro is a retired politician and general from Cuba. He was a very important leader there for a long time! Imagine being in charge of a whole country for years and years. Raúl Castro did just that, following in the footsteps of his brother, Fidel Castro. He was like a captain of a ship, steering Cuba through different times.
A Leader for Decades!
Raúl Castro was born a long time ago, in 1931. He was a big part of the Cuban Revolution, which changed Cuba. For many, many years, he was in charge of Cuba's army, making sure it was strong. He also held top jobs in the government, making big decisions for the country. He was a leader for so long, it's like he was at the same school for more than 50 years!
Steering the Ship of State
For a while, Raúl Castro became the President of Cuba. This is a super important job! He took over from his brother, Fidel Castro, when Fidel became too sick to lead. Raúl was officially chosen as president and then later decided it was time for someone new to take over. He retired from being the top leader in 2021, after many years of service.
What Did He Do?
Raúl Castro was a military general and a politician. He helped lead the Cuban Revolution and then served as the minister of the armed forces for an incredibly long time – from 1959 all the way to 2008! That's longer than most people are alive! He was also the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, which is the most senior position in the country.
