Pygmy Peoples

Imagine people who are shorter than many grown-ups you know! These groups are called 'Pygmy peoples.' The word 'pygmy' means they are unusually short. On average, adult men in these groups are less than 150 centimeters tall, which is about as tall as a big slide on a playground.

They are often shorter than a school bus! These groups live in different parts of the world, like in the big forests of Africa.

Many Pygmy peoples live in the amazing Congo Basin, a huge rainforest in Africa. They are often called hunter-gatherers because they live off the land. This means they find food by hunting animals and gathering fruits and plants.

They know the forest really well! Other groups called 'Negrito' people, who are also shorter than average, live in places like Southeast Asia. They have their own unique ways of life.

Scientists think that being shorter can be a super helpful thing in a hot, rainy forest! It might be easier to move around in the thick jungle when you are smaller. It could also mean you need less food and water, which is good when you live in the wild.

This special short height is something they are born with, and it's passed down in their families. It's not like someone is sick; it's just how they are naturally!

Even though people sometimes focus on their height, these groups are known for so much more! They are incredible hunters and know the forest like the back of their hand. They have rich cultures, traditions, and stories that have been passed down for many, many years.
